Verdun Elementary Music Program
Verdun Elementary School offers a comprehensive music program to students in all grades, both within school hours and through extensive extra-curricular activities.
In class activities include:
- African drumming circles
- Music literacy games
- Keyboard / Piano
- Recorder
- Dance
- Concert Band Program (Grade 5 & 6)
- Appreciating music from various times and places
Verdun Elementary has an additional lunchtime and after school band program for students in Grades 5 and 6. These bands offer unique enrichment opportunities for students who demonstrate great dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm in the music program. The choice of instruments includes alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, and clarinet. Students graduate the band program with a greater sense of commitment, camaraderie with their fellow musicians, self-esteem, and, of course, the ability to play their instruments and read musical notation more skilfully.
Throughout the year, VES students have the opportunity to showcase their musical learning through various special events:
- Winter Concert (Cycle 3)
- Spring Concert (Cycle 1 & 2)
- Junior Concert (Pre-cycle & Cycle 1)
- Band Exchange with the students of St. Edmund Elementary
- Open House
