About us
Our History
Verdun Elementary School was established in 2003 through the merger of St. Thomas Moore and Woodland schools.
There has been an elementary school in this building since its construction and dedication in 1922 as Woodland School. In several of its incarnations, this building has housed a secondary school annex and an adult education centre in addition to an elementary school.
Our school has had a long and illustrious history with our community. Many of our presently enrolled students are the third generation of their families to attend elementary school in our building.
Since the merger in 2003, our school has offered the community a bilingual education program. The ‘English only’ classes were phased out gradually and the last graduates of this program left our school in 2008.
Today, Verdun Elementary is proud to offer its community a vibrant bilingual elementary program.
