A message from the principal
It is a pleasure for me to be joining the Verdun Elementary School community. Upon entering this wonderful school, I immediately felt warm and welcomed by all. At Verdun, we offer dynamic programming where our students are at the center of all that we do. We believe in our LEADS philosophy where all students have access to the tools, strategies and learning opportunities that allow for their maximum potential to be reached.
LEADS is at the heart of our bilingual program and is implemented in the following ways:
Strong leadership provides a solid foundation for learning by setting directions, charting a clear course that everyone understands, establishing high expectations and using data to track progress and performance.
Executive Functioning Skills
Executive functioning Skills, the specific cognitive processes that govern the “how of learning” are explicitly taught across cycles and the curriculum.
Our philosophy recognizes the value of child centered active learning that builds on their natural curiosity allowing for exploration, and matched to their current and emerging abilities promotes student engagement and addresses diverse learning styles.
Student centered, developmentally based education supports and encourages student learning by providing contextualized scaffolding and support in an emotionally supportive atmosphere to ensure that the potential of all students is acknowledged and developed.
Social Emotional Learning
It is widely recognized that specifically focused and intentional SEL in the classroom improves student achievement and literacy skills significantly. VES has a strong commitment to integrating social emotional content and explicit teaching of self-regulation.
